Better Batter is a company who believes that everyone, even those with gluten intolerance, should have the same opportunities to eat delicious foods, using regular recipes, at reasonable prices. Founded by a mother of children with gluten intolerance, this company is committed to not only selling high quality products, they also give the first portion of their net profits to scholarships for those in financial need, charitable contributions, and corporate partnerships/grants for local gluten free support organizations. Although my family does not have problems with gluten intolerance, I have had the opportunity to try products from many companies. The range of quality has varied greatly, and I can say that Better Batter is definitely one of the best product lines we have tried so far. I have come to realize that gluten free products do not need to taste as though something is missing. The true taste test comes with my husband. When he asks me if something is fat free, sugar free, gluten free, etc, I always know that the taste varies in an unpleasant way from baked good made with classic ingredients. My husband did not ask this question with any of the three items that I made and only commented on the great tastes. In addition to the great taste, I am also impressed with the passion this company has for education and support for those with gluten intolerance. They have a great recipe database and even forums on their website!
Results
I was given the Complete Product Sampler to review. The sampler included their flour, two brownie mixes, and pancake mix.
Something about the brownie mix did not mesh with my Perfect Brownie pan as you can see in the picture below! I am assuming that it may have something to do with the gluten free element, but regardless I would recommend baking these in a good old fashion pan. Even though they looked a little rough, these were one of the most delicious box mix brownies I have ever made. I could not get enough of them. I made the cake like option and was very pleased with how moist and flavorful they were.
Determined to give the brownie batter another try, I made a brownie pizza recipe for the Fourth of July. This time, it baked up perfectly and everyone raved at the picnic! I used the Better Batter Flour on the pan and it worked great to help prevent the brownie from sticking!
The pancake mix was also very delicious. Ignore the asymmetrical pancakes below. If there was an award for the person who makes the ugliest pancakes, it would go to me. My hubby made a batch later that turned out perfectly. The taste was, again, phenomenal. My son loves pancakes and told me several times how much he liked these specific ones. I even had to make up a second batch because he liked them so much.
