The Happy Baker: A Girl's Guide to Emotional Baking Review

The Happy Baker: A Girl's Guide To Emotional Baking

Erin Bolger, author of The Happy Baker: A Girl's Guide to Emotional Baking, has been dubbed the bake-it-yourself Carrie Bradshaw. The Harlequin-Nonfiction book is a mix of easy-to-follow recipes and personal dating vignettes. It will help you bake your way through any dating crisis!

From the publisher:
  • Find yourself two-times? Try "Three's a Crowd, Rocky Road Bars," combining the irresistible trio of marshmallows, chocolate chips, and walnuts
  • Found a good one? Make the "I Finally Found a Keeper Gourmet Caramel Apples," and he's sure to stick around.
  • Over him? Bake the sweet-and-salty "I'm So Done with You and the Horse You Rode in on Haystack Cookies," icebox treats that bring together pretzels, chocolate and butterscotch.
Review: The stories inserted into the chapters gave a fun and interesting twist to a classic recipe book. The stories certainly made me smile, and did make me think, "Thank goodness I was not the only one to experience such a dating crisis".  Any author who is willing to share embarrassing episodes of heartbreak gets an A in my book. The recipes all looked delicious and I loved how the recipes and pictures were full pages so you could really get a good idea of what the baked good would look like.

I decided to try the "I Wish Tim McGraw Was My Man, Double Chocolate Blondie". The directions were super easy to follow and I appreciated how many of the recipes contained ingredients that I already had in my cupboards. The blondies turned out great. I have a feeling I will be turning to this book often for some sweet recipes and a few laughs.
