What Does Not Being Organized Cost You? Chances are, it costs you A LOT! A lot of time, a lot of frustration and there can even be financial costs to being disorganized. Eileen Roth, author or Organizing for Dummies, has created a system to finally help you get it together!
The Take Action File system is designed to help remind you that you have something to do. The system comes with a 20 page booklet that explains how to set up the file that will hold and organize all the paper copies of your To Do list. The kit comes with file folder and tab labels and explains various ways to organize all of your papers. The system can also be used with your emails so you can better organize your electronic communications. The system helps you find a way to keep all of your invitations, to-do lists, and future purchases in one place. No more post-it notes and papers all over your desk!
I was given the Take Action File to review and I was in desperate need of a system to help organize my home office. Just take a look at "before":
The above picture was truly how my desk looks every day. Most of the mess has to do with bills and blogging information and it has caused a lot of frustration. I am constantly losing things and wasting my precious time searching through papers trying to find exactly what I need. I used the Take Action File system and here was the result:
Much better! The system was very easy easy to set up. Since it is a way of organizing your "inbox"/to-do list, the categories consist of verbs: "To + a verb". This helps organize what you have to do and there is a further way to organize to allow you to separate items by when they need to be completed.
I am very happy by my clean desk. I am a little concerned that I am going to forget to look in certain files and forget to do things. Sometimes for me out of sight is out of mind. I am going to have to make a habit of regularly checking certain files to make sure things are done by deadlines, but I definitely like the system and I am pretty sure I am going to lose things a lot less often!
