Foodie Friday: Mary's Gone Crackers Review and GIVEAWAY!! **ENDED**

Always on the lookout for high quality and organic sweet options, I happened upon Mary's Gone Crackers website and was immediately intrigued.  The company is committed to creating great tasting products made with organic ingredients. In addition, all of their products are free from wheat and gluten which is great for all of you out there with food allergies! Their slogan, "Traditional flavors, Revolutionary ingredients", says it all.

I was given the opportunity to review Mary's Gone Crackers cookies. All of the cookie flavors, made with whole food ingredients and low glycemic ingredients, are certified organic and kosher. I was given three boxes to try: Ginger Snaps, Chocolate Chip and "N' Oatmeal" Raisin (without oats).  There are 12 cookies per box and a serving size is 2 cookies. Nutritionally, these cookies are a much better option than traditional cookies on the market. One serving size is 120-140 calories, contains 1 g of protein and has no trans fat.
The all natural ingredient combination created a very distinct and delicious taste to these cookies. I would categorize these as having a "grown up taste".  My husband and I really enjoyed the flavors, and even prefer these over the other cookies in our cabinet. Our children, however, did not like them. The good thing about the kids not liking them is my hubby and I get to eat more of them! For me, I found that the cookies had just enough of a sweet taste to satisfy a craving. They were filling, and I found that two cookies was more than enough for a satisfying snack.  Whether you have food allergies or not, I would recommend giving these all organic cookies a try.

Buy it here: You can buy Mary's Gone Crackers products from their website, Amazon.com, and other retailers listed on their site.

Win it here: Marys Gone Crackers is offering one lucky Cake Mom reader a box of cookies of the winner's choosing!

Children's Allergy Relief with Claritin Review and Coupon Giveaway!

I have terrible seasonal allergies. They are so bad, I have to receive weekly shots. Unfortunately, my kids started showing signs that they have seasonal allergies last year. My daughter gets really hoarse and almost loses her voice and my son is constantly sniffling. I was just starting to research the different children's allergy medication options when I was given the opportunity to try children's Claritin.

I have seen the commercials, so I knew that Claritin is the #1 Pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy allergy brand on the market. I was also attracted to the claims that it provides allergy relief for up to 24 hours (the less pills my kids have to take, the better). I was also pleased that it came in a grape flavor.

Review:
My daughter has been sniffling and sneezing quite a bit lately so I was looking forward to trying this product. We have used antihistamines with the kids in the past and, while it works, it makes them so tired. I gave Bella one of the chewable Claritin tablets and within the hour she was no longer sniffling! She had no reaction to the taste of the tablet (no reaction is much better than a disgusted reaction) so I must assume that the taste was tolerable. Not only did it work great, but she was bright and alert all day! My son's allergies have not been acting up lately, but I will be sure to try this product on him if/when his start up again.

Coupon Giveaway: I was given some $3 off coupons which can be used to purchase Children's Claritin (4 oz or 10 count or larger).  I would love to share these with my readers. So, the first 5 readers who leave a comments telling me why they need Children's Claritin will be mailed a $3 off coupon! Please make sure to provide your email so I can get your address (US only please).

As a BzzAgent, I received a sample of Claritin as well as the coupons as part of the Children's Claritin BzzCampaign.

Product Review Monday: Cookware.com & Rachael Ray Bakeware Review

There are over 200 online shopping sites that make up CSN Stores. There sites offer everything you can imagine for your home. I was given the opportunity to review a product from one of their sites. Of course, I chose a product from Cookware.com!

Cookware.com offers an amazing assortment of products. They sell cookware, bakeware, tableware, small appliances, cutlery, and more! They offer well trusted and well known brand products on their site as well. Not only is the selection outstanding, their prices are discounted. I was given the opportunity to review the Rachael Ray Yum-O 2 Piece Cookie Sheet Bakeware Set.

Cookware.com Review:  When I was given the opportunity to review a product, I immediately knew that I would like some new cookie sheets (mine were beyond ready to be tossed). Navigating through the site was simple. The page layout was very user friendly. I could easily find the search box and received immediate and relevant matches to my search request. If it is a certain brand you are looking for, you can search that way too. I was very pleased with how easy the site was to work with. The customer service was great and shipping was speedy as well. Based on price, ease of navigation, huge selection, and great customer service, I would highly recommend this site without reservation!
These baking sheets are fantastic. They are very large, so there is plenty of room to fit a lot of cookies and leave adequate room in between the cookies so they can properly expand while baking without baking into one another.  The handles were generously sized and had a small silicone gripper to help prevent slipping. The non-stick finish is truly non-stick and my chocolate chip cookies easily came off the sheet with not so much as a crumb left behind.  The set has a lifetime warranty and a portion of the proceeds go to Rachael Ray's charity Yum-O, which was created to empower children and their families to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking.

My experience with both CSN Stores and the bakeware I was able to review were both 100% positive. If you are in need of new household items and kitchen items, then CSN Stores is where you want to turn!

I was provided with the above mentioned product for the purpose of facilitating this review. No other compensation was received and the views expressed here are my own.

McCormick D.I.Y. Cupcakes!

McCormick brand vanilla, an important ingredient in my buttercream frosting, is a staple in my house. While I was familiar with their extracts and food colors, I was excited to learn that they offer a wide variety of food products to include spices. In addition, their website is fantastic! For the cook, there are tons of recipes and cooking ideas. For the baker, they have a recently launched "Decorate It Yourself" (D.I.Y.) workshop. The Easter workshop had an endless amount of recipes, decorating ideas, and entertainment ideas.

McCormick sent me this AMAZING D.I.Y kit:

I was so excited to get the opportunity to try these great products and get in on the D.I.Y. fun. I decided to use my kit to make "Hello, Flower Cupcakes", a recipe from decorating experts Karen Tack and Alan Richardson, co-authors of the new book, What's New, Cupcake? The cupcakes turned out great and the recipe was very easy to follow!

Ingredients:
24 yellow cake cupcakes in white paper liners
30 marshmallows
1 cup tinted coconut (see Thursday's technique/terminology post)
16 ounces canned vanilla frosting
McCormick Assorted Food Colors and Egg Dye and McCormick Assorted NEON! Food Colors and Egg Dye Kit
1 cup course green tinted sugar
24 yellow spice drops

1. Place the colored sprinkles in a medium bowl. Cut several marshmallows crosswise into 4 slices. Place the cut marshmallows in the sprinkles and toss to coat the cut area with the sprinkles. Transfer to a cookie sheet. Repeat with the remaining marshmallows and sprinkles to make 120 marshmallow petals.

2. Tint the vanilla frosting bright green with the green and yellow McCormick food coloring. Place the green sugar in a shallow bowl. Spread the tops of several cupcakes with the green frosting and make smooth. Roll the edge of the frosted cupcakes in the green sugar to coat. Repeat with the remaining cupcakes.

3. Arrange 5 marshmallow petals on top of the frosted cupcakes, pressing the marshmallow into the frosting to secure. Add a spice drop in the center of the cupcake to complete the flower.

You can find more fun ideas for the spring at McCormick's D.I.Y. online workshop.

Foodie Friday: Pirate's Booty Review

Pirate Brands offers a couple lines of healthy and delicious snack that are all certified Kosher. Pirate's Booty is a line of baked, all natural rice and corn puffs that are both tasty and healthy.  These products are free of trans fat and are gluten free. There are only 130 calories per serving and they come adorably packaged!

The products came in a fun cardboard treasure chest:

Review:
I was given 5 bags of snacks to review. The flavors were as follows: Aged White Cheddar, Veggie, Sea Salt and Vinegar, Sour Cream and Onion, and New York Pizza. When I opened the bag and realized that these were baked puffs, I was a bit apprehensive. I remember buying similar products when my children were young as an alternative to pop corn. These, however, were nothing like those snacks I used to buy.  The flavors on the Pirate's Booty snacks were delicious! I was surprised by how much I liked the Veggie snack. I am not a huge fan of vegetables, but loved the slightly salty blend of veggies (spinach, carrots, kale and parsley) added to these puffs.  I enjoyed every single flavor and I would definitely recommend these as a healthier alternative to potato chips any day.

Buy it here:
You can buy these products in bulk from the Pirate Brands website or from Amazon.com. Their website also has a store locator and you may be able to purchase their products locally.

Mother's Day Alert: Emerson Creek Pottery Review and GIVEAWAY!! **ENDED**

Emerson Creek Pottery

If you are still searching for a great Mother's Day present for the mother figure in your life who loves unique and beautiful gifts, then check out Emerson Creek Pottery. The company has been selling high quality, handcrafted American pottery since 1977. Made in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, their pottery is completely lead free and is oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
Emerson Creek Pottery offers a wide selection of products to include dinnerware, bakeware, kitchenware, bathroom accessories, ceramic pitchers and tea pots, serving ware, vases, lamps, baby sets, candles, home decor, and artison bakeware. They also offer a nice variety of patterns to match different decors. I am a fan of their Wisteria line as my kitchen has a grape and wine theme.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to review the Iris Honey Pot. The handcrafted pot is decorated with beautiful periwinkle and plum Japanese irises. The pot came with a wooden dipper and lid and is date stamped on the bottom side. It was well packaged for shipment so I would not be concerned about the products breaking in the mail.  This pot is very attractive and I am tempted to throw a tea party just so I can serve my guests honey out of this pot! I certainly do not use honey on a daily basis, but the pottery is so beautiful, that I am going to keep it visible on my dining room buffet all the time.
After reviewing the honey pot, I have full confidence in the quality products created by Emerson Creek Pottery and feel that any mother or grandmother would be thrilled to receive a piece (or more!) for Mother's Day.

Technique/Terminology Thursday: Tinting Sugars, Sprinkles, and Coconut

I learned a fun and easy trick from McCormick that allows me to color my sugars, sprinkles, and coconut shavings! Just follow these simple steps!

1. Place the sprinkles (or sugar or coconut shavings) in a container with a tight fitting lid. Add a few drops of McCormick food color.

2. Seal the container and shake well until the color has evenly coated the sprinkles. If you need a darker shade, add a few more drops of coloring and shake well again.

3. Spread the sprinkles onto a plate and let air dry for about 15 minutes. Break up any lumps before use. These can be stored in a cool dry place for several weeks!

This is a great way to perfectly match your sprinkles to your icing and it really easy! Come back on Saturday and see how I used these to decorate some adorable spring-themed cupcakes!!

McCormick provided me with the above mentioned tip as well as the products mentioned. No other compensation was received and the views expressed here are my own.

Gifted Imaginations Review: Bakeless Baking for Kids!

Gifted Imaginations

Gifted Imaginations is an online store that is sells "fun, festive, unique, imaginative toys & children's clothing". There are so many options that promote pretend, hands-on, and creative play. Their selection is enormous and they offer products for children of all ages. In the age of Blu-Ray and Playstation, the toy options Gifted Imaginations offers are welcome in my house any time!

My children and I were provided with the Bake & Decorate Cupcake Set by Melissa and Doug set to review. The set, reasonably priced at $18.99, contains 6 wooden cupcakes with interchangeable tops, cupcake liners, an oven mitt, a baking pan, and birthday candles. The kit contains three dry-erase markers that serve as "icing" for the cupcake tops. After decorating, the tops can be easily washed off and decorated again and again!

Review:
I knew that my 4-year-old daughter was going to love this set. She is extremely creative and artistic. What surprised me, however, was how much my 6-year-old son (who is not so creative or artistic) loved this. What I expected to hear from him was: "No fair, Bella gets things in the mail more than me". What I heard was: "Cupcakes! Yeah! I love cupcakes! You are the best, Mom!" WOW!  So, without delay I opened the kit and let them get to work. They played intently with this kit for well over an hour! They had a really good time decorating each cupcake, attempting to make one more unique than the last. They also created a little area to serve as their "oven" so they could "bake" them.

I am thrilled that they love this set and they have been playing with it daily since it arrived. It is easy clean up and lots of fun! The product was very well made and I am certain that it will last a VERY long time.
Rating: Not surprisingly, Jack and Bella gave this set two thumbs WAY up!

Product Review Monday: Glee Gum Review and GIVEAWAY!! **ENDED**

Glee Gum is best known for creating chewing gum made from all natural ingredients. They also offer kits that allow you to make your own gum and candy! The Make Your Own Chewing Gum, MakeYour Own Chocolate, and Make Your Own Gummies Kits blend simple fun, terrific taste, and hands-on learning for convenient use at home and school. Each kit contains everything needed to produce candy that kids love, and, allows you to educate your children on creating food with raw materials. Who knew candy could be both enjoyable and educational!

I was provided with the  Make Your Own Gummies Kit to review. Like their other products, the kit contains all natural ingredients (like seaweed!) and is eco-friendly. The kit comes with a story explaining the origins of the ingredients. I was very excited to use this kit with my children. My daughter loves to cook/bake and my son loves science so I figured this would be the perfect blend of the two!

Results:
The directions were fairly easy to follow; however, since the products is made for 8-year-olds and older, I decided to simplify the process a bit. There is a molding starch that can be used to create your own designs (I used the starch to make a donut shape and it worked quite well, but took some patience). For my kids, I decided to use candy molds instead because, well, they have yet to learn patience.

The gummies easily popped out of the mold and held their shape well. It is difficult to make out the details on the photo, but this frog looked really good. After making the gummies, you mix them with a sour sugar topping. I thought these tasted so good! (I love Sour Patch Kids and this was very similar to the taste). My children, however, liked the gummies better without the sour sugar added.

I really liked this product because it allowed us to create an edible science experiment. My kids were very excited to see how these ingredients could be blended together to make a candy.

Pros:
Great customer service and speedy delivery
All natural ingredients
My kids had fun with the process of making the candy
Tasted yummy!

Cons:

The candy does gel fairly quickly, so after heating the ingredients you have to work fast to get the shapes molded
The sour sugar was pretty strong and, although I really loved it, was a bit too strong for the kids (since this is an optional step, you can simply skip it if your kids don't like the sour taste)

Buy it here: You can order Glee Gum products from their website, at retail locationsand certain products are offered through Amazon.

Win it here: Glee Gum is offering one Cake Mom reader their own Make Your Own Kit! Winner can choose between Make Your Own Gummies, Make Your Own Chocolate and Make Your Own Chewing Gum!
