My 7 year old son has already learned about the solar system in school and he took a real interest in learning about the planets. Planets - Create a Solar System Mobile is a great kit that allows your child to create a piece of art that would look great hanging in their room while reminding them about our solar system. The kit has everything you will need to make the mobile and includes some really interesting facts on planets in our solar system.
preprinted mobile base
9 foam balls - assorted sizes
9 hanging cords
air dry clay
Saturn's Rings (cardboard)
facts on planets
The recommended age for this kit is 8 and up. My son is not very artistic. He enjoyed making the solar system, but struggled a bit with spreading the clay over the planets (age 7). My daughter, who is 5, is very artistic and was easily able to accomplish this task. So, depending on your child's ability to manipulate materials such as this, it can probably be purchased for children under the recommended age of 8. Jack really enjoyed creating different looks for all the planets. He chose to create his own planets versus making the real ones. There was enough clay to fit all the planets and there was still some left over. It turned out nicely and he now has it hanging in his room.
