Our First Year: Cost-Effective Recipes from the Home of Newlyweds Book Review

Newlyweds are faced with many challenges and cooking for two on a budget is one such challenge. Our First Year: Cost Effective Recipes from the Home of Newlyweds was authored by Jaclyn Douma after she married her sweetheart and realized that the average cookbook features complicated recipes with expensive and strange ingredients. She began experimenting on her own, combining hers and her husband's family traditions into her own unique recipes.

The book features helpful cooking tips and easy to follow recipes in the following categories:
Must-haves for your pantry
Bits of advice I've learned
Party ideas
Substitutes
How to
Appetizers
Salads
Breakfast
Forgetta bout it crock-pots
Dinners
Side dishes
Desserts
And more...

Review: This cookbook is great! I really don't like recipes that cost a fortune to make. The recipes are extremely easy to follow and I already have most of the ingredients in my kitchen cupboards.  They are not time consuming, which I love. I would definitely recommend this book for a new cook, someone who does not like spending too much time or money on recipes, and it would make a great bridal shower gift.
I followed the Oatmeal Cookie recipe. My family was instantly in love with these cookies. I made them with chocolate chips to make them a little sweeter.  They stuck to the pan a bit, but my family and I did not care. I appreciated the fact that every ingredient was handy. The recipe was really easy to follow and the result was a delicious batch of cookies!
