Family Dollar Savings Challenge!

I love a good bargain and I try really hard to keep my family's daily supplies stocked for the littlest amount of money as possible. Family Dollar is a dollar store that offers a hugs assortment of brand name and generic products that will help you stretch your paycheck, something that is so important during the holiday season.  I was very excited when I was given a challenge to shop at a Family Dollar store with a $50 gift card and see how much I could get and how much I could save.

So, I set out to get some of the items listed in their weekly sale circular and pick up some Christmas gifts and other household items I would regularly purchase at my weekly excursion to Walmart. I have been convinced for years that Walmart has the best deals on household products, but I found out today during my first trip to Family Dollar that this is not always the case. Take Dawn dish soap, for example. The price for a small bottle of this dish soap at Walmart is $1.15. They had a larger bottle on sale at Family Dollar for just $0.90. Plus, Family Dollar accepts manufacturer's coupons!

Here is a round-up of my purchased (sale items are marked with an *):
2 tubes of wrapping paper - $1 each
Infant pajama set - $5
3 pack of burp cloths - $4
Charmin Ultra Soft 12 pack - $6.50 (I also had a $0.20 coupon)
*Dawn Dish Soap - $0.90 (I also had a $0.15 off coupon making this a steal at just $0.75!!)
*Joy Dish Soap - $0.90 (I also had a $0.40 off coupon making this only $0.50!!)
*Febreze Air Effects $2.50 (I had a $1 off coupon as well)
Medicated shampoo - $2
2 Purina Busy Bones - $3 each (I had a $1.50 off coupon)
Tuff Stuff 28ct garbage bags - $3
5 Dog Toys/bones - $1 each
2 Plastic cutlery bags - $1 each
Looney Toons Board Game - $5 (WOW!)

Plus, the store had a $5 off $25 coupon so I saved $8.95 and spent a total of $38.15! I was absolutely thrilled that I got all of this and still have $11.85 to spend on a future trip!  I have not thought to shop of Family Dollar before but now that I have seen the savings and the large assortment of offerings, I will be visiting them regularly!
