It had a great exfoliated effect and my skin felt great after use! This book would make a great treat for yourself or perhaps a great gift for someone who could use some pampering in their life.

Carmex Moisture Plus Orange Review

Carmex has been known for their high quality lip care products.  We all know it is really important to find high quality lip products that will keep your lips from chapping, no matter the season.  I was very excited when I was given the opportunity to be one of the first people to try their brand new Orange Moisture Plus lip balm!

Review:  I was given the opportunity to review a couple of the tinted lip balms a couple of months ago. I loved the moisturizing effect, but would have preferred a non-tinted version. I was very happy when the new Orange Moisture Plus arrived in a clear version. The moisturizing affect is dramatic, while the taste is subtle yet delightful. It smells really great and makes my lips feel amazing.  I found that the length of wear was comparable to most lip products on the market and while it did need reapplied numerous times throughout the day, each time was like a treat for my lips.

There are some people who, I believe, are born with a calling to help other people. My father, who has been deceased for almost five years, was one of those people. He was a firefighter and one of those people who would stop what he was doing the minute someone would call him and need his help with something. His job as a firefighter was very time consuming and he almost always had 1-2 additional jobs so he could support our family. No matter how busy he was with his duties, he always found time to help those who were less fortunate. 

He volunteered regularly at “Gifts for Kids” (GFC), a local organization that fixed broken toys and donated them to hospitals, organizations, and families. He took this responsibility very seriously and would often bring difficult-to-fix electronics home from the GFC workshop to continue to tinker with at home until he could get it working. He knew that the time it took to fix a toy was nothing compared to the joy a child would experience after receiving a toy, like a Playstation, they never thought they would be able to own. 

In addition to his GFC duties, he regularly donated his time and even money to help others. I remember vividly helping him deliver boxes of presents and food he purchased for a family he “adopted” one holiday season. That generosity was incredibly inspiring and has motivated me to donate to less-fortunate families every holiday season.

Great Menus: Seasonal Recipes for Entertaining is a paperback cookbook authored by Patsy Mote, the First Lady of the University of Maryland. Ms. Mote has become an expert at entertaining and has hosted dinners for Heads of Stat, Nobel Prize winners, Congressmen, authors, and more. The recipe book focuses on menus for small events for no more than 16 guests. 

There are over 200 recipes featured in Great Menus and it is organized by the type of event you would be hosting. Examples include brunches, seasonal dinners, spring barbecue, and a guy's luncheon. This book is not a typical recipe book, it is also a how-to for throwing a great get together. Each event features recommendations for drinks, decorations, and more.  The recipe book is not only well organized, it features beautiful pictures (photography by  David Harp). Although there is not a picture for every recipe, the ones highlighted set the tone for the event and look delicious.  

With two small children, a full-time job, and a blog, when I cook it is typically convenience cooking. The ingredients in the recipes are not items that I would typically have readily available in my cupboard. The recipes were, however, easy to follow.

Always a fan of desserts, I made some sugar cookies meant for dessert as part of a spring dinner. The results were a delicious, half-dipped in chocolate cookie:

I could not believe the sheer amount of things included in this kit! With the wide variety , the jewelry options seemed endless. It is designed for ages 7 and up. My daughter is 5 and was easily able to make all the jewelry with the exception of beading the gel cord which required a bit more advanced fine motor skills. She loved finding the perfect pattern from the OptiArt design sheet and matching it with the jewelry pieces and gems. The jewelry is actually quite attractive when completed. She allowed me to make some jewelry as well and we kept busy with the kit for almost two straight hours, made tons of jewelry, and still have tons of items left to make a lot more jewelry. I would highly recommend this kit and think the value ($17.99) is unbelievable!

Sticky Sheets Review

My mom has long-haired cats. Whether you see them or not, you can tell they live in the house as soon as you take a look at her couches. She is constantly trying to remove hair from her furniture, but it is a job that can be a lot more difficult than it sounds. 

Sticky Sheets is a product designed for people who have a need to clean fabrics from pet hair. The large sheets of adhesive work by simply removing the backing, placing the Sticky Sheet on the furniture, and ripping back off. Hairs, displaced fibers, fuzzies, etc. come right off!

One package contains 12 large 23x35 inch sheets, the same surface area as 30 adhesive lint rollers. Sound too good to be true? I thought it may be but the fact is it works like a charm! It peals from the backing simply and collects tons of pet hair with one rip. Not only is it more effective than using a lint brush, it is a lot quicker! This is a must-have for pet owners.

Spring is just about here which means I am looking for products that are functional and can keep up with my family's active lifestyle.  My kids, dogs, and I frequently take walks to the park and water is a must.  AUTOSEAL Kangaroo Water Bottle (from Contigo)  is the perfect water bottle for me and my family. It is a spill proof bottle that has a built-in compartment that allows you to carry keys, credit cards, money, or whatever else you may need while you are on the go!

This bottle can serve so many purposes. It measures fluid ounces, so you can keep track of water intake. The leak-proof/spill-proof option means you can easily toss it in a bag without worry. Tropical Traditions Coconut Flour Review and GIVEAWAY!! **ENDED**

Tropical Traditions Organic Coconut Flour is made from the fibers from the coconut meat after the oils have been extracted. It is certified organic, unsweetened, and has not been treated with sulfites. Tropical Traditions organic coconut flour is high in dietary fiber and protein, and is gluten-free. It has more fiber than gluten-based grains. It is also gluten-free and this makes a nice alternative to more expensive baking substitutes for those who have gluten intolerance!

Results: I decided to use the coconut flour to make a coconut flour chocolate cake which was frosted with a whipped topping and coconut flakes. The result was a very delicious and moist cake. The flour worked as I would expect. I used it as an ingredient as well as with grease on the pan to prevent sticking.   The flour tastes slightly of coconut, but it is not overpowering and does not alter the taste of your baked good too much. It has a slightly sweeter taste than normal flour which I think simply enhanced the taste of the cake.

My Sweet Son!

My husband and I are in desperate need of new couches. So, tonight we went looking since we are getting a nice tax return this year. We have been through every furniture store in this town and cannot agree on a couch! The big mistake was taking our kids. We went in looking for couches and came out with two bunk beds! 

Despite the hefty price tag, the day was incredible rewarding. I told my kids that we would sell their old beds and put it in our Disney fund. My 7 year-old told me that he does not want to sell his and wants to donate it to charity. It is times like this that I forgive myself for occasionally losing my cool with my kids and realize that I am doing a pretty good job raising them after all.

I love shopping online. There is no hassle of crowded stores or traffic jams. Shopping in the comfort of my home with my pajamas on is just so much more appealing. What is even better about shopping from home is you can often find some amazing deals online, sometimes saving you even more than if you would have went to the store. PromotionCode.org is a great site you can visit before you shop to get the most recent coupon codes.

I decided to test the site out by looking for some JC Penney discounts (there are an adorable pair of shoes I am eyeing). I entered the store name into the search box and it instantaneous gave me some options. After choosing the option that best fit my search, I was provided with tons of promotional codes. They are listed in order based on success rate, with staff picks listed first. I really like how the success rate (along with the date the coupon was last tried by a user) is listed. Some other sites make you click additional links to get the actual discount code, but PromotionCode.org clearly displays the code and allows you to use a copy and paste feature.  I was able to easily find my code, copy, and paste it on the JC Penney checkout and received a 15% discount! 

I found the site really easy to use and I have already bookmarked it on my computer. Any free site that will save me money is a favorite of mine! The amount of time I will save by trying to decipher which promo code will actually work is very appealing.  I would definitely recommend and suggest you give it a try and see how much money you can save in a matter of a couple of minutes!

Purex Complete with Zout Review and GIVEAWAY!! (2 winners) **ENDED**

Purex is my favorite brand of laundry detergent so I was thrilled to learn that they have launched a brand new product! Purex Complete with Zout is a detergent and pre-treater, all in one.  It is formulated to get tough stains out of clothes and since spring is here and my kids constantly have grass stains on their knees, the bottle for review could not have come at a better time!

Purex Complete with Zout comes in both Fresh Morning Burst scent and Free & Clear (fragrance free hypoallergenic formula).  The detergent is formulated to work in both traditional and High Efficiency (HE) washers.  For normal loads, you simply add it to your washer as you normally would. If you have tough stains, you can pretreat by pouring a little directly on the stain and rubbing it into the fabric. After sitting for 5 minutes, you can wash as normal.

I was given a bottle of Free & Clear Purex Complete with Zout to review. I was very happy to hear they are offering a hypoallergenic formula. I have horrible eczema and have to use free and clear formulas, but the ones I have used in the past are expensive and I have not been happy with their cleaning power. This is not the case for this Purex product. It worked great! My clothes were clean and fresh after washing and it did wonders on stains. It removed dirt, chocolate, and jello stains from my daughter's clothes and they looked brand new after wash. As you can tell, my daughter is quite messy so this product will be a lifesaver.

The best part about this product is the price! It costs far less than other detergents ($3.49-$7.99 depending on size and retail location) and saves money by not having to buy separate stain remover. I am thrilled they offer it in the Free & Clear option.  The detergent I used to buy was almost $10 a bottle. I am switching permanently to this product from now on!

I am tired all the time. Unfortunately, I am tired AND stressed which means that I often lay tossing and turning at night wishing I could get to sleep. Take 10 Beverages  has created two drinks designed to promote relaxation through blends of herbal extracts and vitamins. The products come in single-serving 2 oz bottle. They are free from sugar, calories, and carbs. Because they are in fluid form, they are designed to be absorbed and work quickly.

Take 10 TO RELAX is a "shot" of relaxation (think opposite of a caffeine/energy shot) and is designed to naturally, and nutritionally, reduce anxiety. I used a sample when I was having a particularly stressful day at home. The drink had a white grape flavor and was a little bitter, but it was enjoyable. I did find myself to be more relaxed after drinking it. Either it was the adrenaline drop and/or the effects of the drink but within an hour I was relaxed enough to take a nap.  I would recommend this product if you experience occasional anxiety.

Take 10 TO SLEEP is meant to promote relaxation and a good night's sleep. This one had a very enjoyable taste (blackberry). I usually have to take Melatonin in order to get a decent night's sleep.  I decided to try this product instead and was very happy with the results. I slept as soundly as I do with Melatonin and woke feeling rested.
